Time to get ready for Black Lives Matter at School’s Week of Action!
The Black Lives Matter at School annual Week of Action is coming right up and several major events have been organized to help prepare people to join this vital national mobilization. This year’s Week of Action comes amidst a vicious backlash to advancements for racial justice in the form of the attacks on critical race theory (CRT) in education that have banned the teaching of structural racism in states around the country. More than ever we must unit to demand that Black students have the right to physical and emotional safety in school, to have Black people centered in the curriculum, and to learn of joy and justice. Many teachers are pledging to teach the truth about Black history and structural racism regardless of the anti-CRT attacks and I hope you will join them.
If you’ve never participated in the Week of Action before, we have a “Getting Started With BLM at School” session on Friday, January 14th at 4pm PT to orient you to the action and answer questions. If you are already planning an action, we would very much appreciate it if you could join our “National Planning Meeting” session on Sunday, January 16th at 4pm PT to report to the national organization and participate in a strategy session. Everyone interested in the Week of Action should attend the “Black Lives Matter at School Curriculum Fair,” hosted by the D.C. Area Educators for Social Justice on Saturday, January 22 at 12:00 noon ET.
See you there!
