February 1st marks the beginning of the 4th annual Black Lives Matter at School national Week of Action! Here is a calendar of online events for each day of the week to counter anti-Blackness in education. Join the movement!
I am excited to announce that I have a new book coming out from Rethinking Schools that I co-edited with Michael Charney and Bob Peterson: Teacher Unions and Social Justice: Organizing for the Schools and Communities Our Students Deserve. On Thursday, January 21, the book's editors will be joined by leading social justice union organizers Arlene Inouye and Michelle Gunderson to launch the book--and hopefully a new era of union power in the struggle for schools and society our children deserve.
I am writing to invite you to the book launch event on Wednesday, December 2nd at 5:00 p.m. Eastern for the new book I co-edited with Denisha Jones, "Black Lives Matter at School: An Uprising for Educational Justice!"
"'Black Lives Matter at School' is an essential resource for all those seeking to build an antiracist school system." —Ibram X. Kendi, National Book Award-winning and #1 New York Times Bestselling Author
Wednesday, Oct. 14th is George Floyd's birthday. Join Black Lives Matter at School, the WA State NAACP Youth Council, and National Educators United on October 14th at 5 pm PDT/8 pm EDT for a town hall to celebrate George Floyd’s birthday. We'll have educators, students, and activists speaking from Minneapolis, Louisville, Seattle and around the country. In addition, Black Lives Matter at School is calling on educators and families to facilitate a eight minuet and 46 second timed activity with youth asking them to write or draw about the future they want to live in.
